Just when we thought we knew all there is to know about the original Star Wars trilogy, Mark Hamill has gifted the internet with a fun anecdote about the first time he met Harrison Ford. Over the weekend, footage of the pair’s screen test for Star Wars: A New Hope resurfaced on Twitter…
“My screen-test for @starwars w/ Harrison on the 1st day I ever met him,” Hamill wrote in response to CNBC journalist Carl Quintanilla’s tweet of the video. “Neither 1 of us had read the script at this point, only this 1 scene. I asked George what kind of movie it was—’Let’s just do it, we’ll talk about that later’ We never did talk about it later—we just did it.”
The scene in question is a testy discussion between Han Solo and Luke Skywalker that didn’t make it into the final film. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s account, the original script had Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi swindling Han Solo (and Chewbacca) into giving them a ride to Alderaan, promising half of the agreed-upon sum after their arrival. Unfortunately, Luke doesn’t actually have the money, and this scene shows him admitting to short-changing everyone’s favorite smuggler by about 5,000.
To which Han Solo responds: “I’m beginning not to like you.”
